The chocolate fanatics amongst you will know that the Snickers More Nuts has been around before (in 2010). It's been released again, along with a new More Caramel version. Apparently this is the first time that Mars Chocolates (the company behind Snickers) has introduced two limited editions to the "same brand at the same time".
There is nothing radically new about either of these limited editions. I'm going to assume for the purposes of this review that everyone reading this has tried a Snickers, or maybe it was a Marathon, at some point in their lives. The Snickers More Nuts is extremely similar to the regular Snickers. There is a the same delicious peanut flavour and aftertaste, but it's just a little more intense.

The Snickers More Caramel is slightly different. As you can see from the cross section below, there is no nougat layer. Anyone who tried the Limited Edition Mars Caramel, which also removed the layer of nougat, will have reached the conclusion that the nougat is an essential part of a Mars Bar - it was just too bland without it. Is it the same for the Snickers More Caramel?
The More Nuts is definitely the winner of the two for me. It's just like a Snickers but with even more flavour. The More Caramel is smaller (54g versus 58g) and has less calories but is nowhere near as tasty.

Grocery Gems Verdict: Snickers More Caramel

Buy them again?: Too sweet for me but worth a try.

the more caramel one doesnt look as if theyve put any more caramel in it at all! it just literally looks like theyve taken the nougat out...booo!
ReplyDeleteHaha - good point! It certainly doesn't have more caramel but the texture of the caramel is softer then the caramel layer in a regular Snickers. I don't think anyone would want any more of this caramel - it's quite sickly!
DeleteLove your pictures! Those cross-sections certainly look more appealing than the road ones on my work PC. They should make these limited edition bars in snack size form. Its a shame the tastier of the two is the unhealthiest but that's life I guess!
ReplyDeleteThanks Adrian! Good idea regarding snack size - I would prefer that too.
DeleteIt sort of looks like there's more caramel in the 'more nuts' bar! How ironic... I'm not too fussed by either of these bars if I'm honest but if someone offered me either bar I wouldn't turn it down.
ReplyDeleteI wish brands would make interesting new falvours and bars rather than variations of current bars, it seems so lazy. Taking out caramel, adding caramel, adding nuts, making 'bubbly' bars smaller etc etc etc... just no!
Anyway!
Lucy
lol at the "taking out caramel, adding caramel, adding nuts" - it's so true! Both of these bars are uninspired choices and quite boring. The More Nuts is vey tasty though ;)
DeleteI'd go for more nuts, but both seem so uninspiring to me. Just another marketing gimmick. What will they try next year, double caramel with nuts?
ReplyDeleteI have to say though, those pics have made me hungry for a Snickers now :)
Thanks Kev! lol at your "double caramel with nuts" idea. I bet Mars totally steal that :)
DeleteIt reminds me of a bar I bought in Cybercandy a few months ago called Snickers 3 Nuts (also limited edition). It's just not interesting enough to write about.
I will just stick to a normal snickers I think. The More Caramel just looks like a stitch up to me, much like the Mars Caramel, the Nougat is the best bit!
ReplyDeleteThe More Nuts is worth a try if you like Snickers (hubby loves it) but you're right about the More Caramel!
