Asda Loaded Peanut Butter Crunch Ice Cream
What better way to start off the weekend then cracking open a new tub of ice cream. I've often mentioned on this blog how much I love peanut butter and it's many incarnations. Especially peanut butter and chocolate - bring it on! I'm racking my brain but I don't think I've ever had peanut butter ice cream before, even from the up market brands, so this Peanut Butter Crunch Ice Cream is a first for me.
The ice cream is described as "swirled with peanut butter, salted caramel flavoured ripple and milk chocolate coated caramel, peanut and rice clusters". Lots of yummy sounding elements in there, especially the salted caramel. The ice cream itself is a golden colour and I could see straight away that the peanut butter has been totally incorporated into the ice cream. I had assumed that the peanut butter flavour would be in the little chocolate nuggets or as seperate swirls but that's not the case. The whole ice cream has a peanut butter taste. It's not just nutty or tasting of peanuts. It's definitely the peanut butter taste you would get from your favourite jar. There are lots of little bits of peanut throughout the ice cream which some texture-phobic people might not like. Not me though, I loved it! The ice cream is very creamy, perhaps not as richly creamy as brands such as Haagen-Dazs, but it comes quite close. Mixed with the peanut butter it all tastes extremely moreish delicious.
The salted caramel swirls are delicious too, they didn't hold back with the salty flavour which I like. When I first tasted a bit of the salted caramel swirl it instantly reminded me of a Snickers and that is not surprising what with the salty, chocolate, peanut and caramel combination. The chocolate pieces are filled with rice clusters. They give a nice crunchy texture to the ice cream but the chocolate flavour is not as distinctive as it could have been. Overall, I would also have preferred there to be more caramel swirls and chocolate pieces but it's still perfectly pleasant and altogether a very interesting tub of ice cream.
I bought the tub for £2 in Asda from their Chosen by You range. It contains no artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fats. I think it's a great tasting bargain and I would definitely buy it again and try other products from this range.
This sounds really nice, and as £2 it's cheaper than half the price of the bigger name companies like Ben and Jerry's.
ReplyDeleteThere is a bit of a lack of P.B ice cream in England, but it's definitely growing. Tesco and Chokablok have their own versions and i'm sure other supermarkets will catch up in time.
I can't wait to try this, I've got some sat in the freezer tempting me! This is dessert tomorrow I think! Like Dave says, it's a really good price at £2 a tub!
ReplyDeleteI really like the Chokablok Peanut Butter Nutter, Tesco do this in a tub or on sticks and it's REALLY good. The only problem with the sticks is that they come in boxes of 3 so there is always and argument between me and the hubby as to who gets the last one...the must do this so you have to buy 2 boxes!
PS: Thank you for adding me to your blog list :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Hannah and thank you too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the recommendations. Looks like the Chokablok tub is next on my hit list!
