Border Biscuits Sharing Pack Review

I'm so excited about this review because I LOVE Border Biscuits, they're simply my favourite biscuit brand. The main reason for that is their divine Viennese Whirl biscuits (more of which later!). Border Biscuits is a family owned Scottish company, whose philosophy is focused on one thing - the quality of their biscuits.

I was delighted to be asked to try out this new "Made for Sharing" pack of Border Biscuits. I mean, just look at it, it's fabulous! It's essentially a selection box of biscuits in four varieties; Butterscotch Crunch, Strawberry & Cream Shortbread, Milk Chocolate Viennese Whirls (yum!) and Toffee Apple Crumbles.

The lid opens to reveal a perfect display of upright golden biscuits. I couldn't help myself, I had to delve straight in and start with the Chocolate Viennese Whirls. The Viennese Whirl biscuit is traditionally a combination of vanilla and buttery flavours, all wrapped up in a lovely light biscuit. As I said in the intro, the Border Biscuits Viennese Whirls are undoubtedly my favourite biscuits and I'm going to to do a separate review of those soon!

Chocolate Viennese Whirls
In this sharing pack there are four Chocolate Viennese Whirls, which are just as delicious, buttery and with a perfect vanilla flavour, as my favourite biscuits, but with the added bonus of an undercoating of milk chocolate. The whole thing is just biscuit perfection.

Strawberry & Cream Shortbread
The next biscuit that really appealed to me is the Strawberry & Cream Shortbread. My husband loves shortbread biscuits and even though he usually goes for the plain buttery type, he adored this Strawberry & Cream version too. The texture of the shortbread is just amazing, like the Viennese Whirl, it melts in the mouth perfectly. There are juicy strawberry pieces in every mouthful which are just bursting with flavour. Another winner!

Butterscotch Crunch
The next two biscuits in the pack are more of a "cookie" type of biscuit, they are less buttery and more crunchy - perfect with tea! The Butterscotch Crunch is filled with little butterscotch pieces that are crunchy but with a little chewiness. As these biscuits are slightly thinner than the first two types, they have more of snap and crunch when you eat them, but, they are still wonderfully light and melt in the mouth.

Toffee Apple Crumble
The last biscuit is a new addition to the Border Biscuit family, the amazing sounding Toffee Apple Crumble, and wow, these biscuits really do live up to my high expectations. I find that most "apple" flavoured snacks are quite disappointing in their lack of appley-ness (I'm sure that's the correct technical term!). That is not the case here, these biscuits taste of apple from the first bite to the last. The background toffee flavour accompanies the apple perfectly. There is a hint of cinnamon too and lots of crunchy sugar for added texture. These are scrumptious biscuits which should be savoured and enjoyed.

As you can tell I loved all of these biscuits, they are classic biscuits with traditional homemade flavours, and are unbelievably moreish. This pack has obviously been made with a "sharing" aspect in mind, and they would make a stunning biscuit to serve up when guests come over - although if you're anything like me, you'll probably be more tempted to keep them for yourself!

  1. That's a nice idea for a product- it appeals to a much wider audience. The Toffee Apple Crumble in particular sounds like a real winner- I've never seen a similarly flavoured biscuit before I don't think.

And a 10/10 too... now that IS a Grocery Gems achievement!

    1. They do quite a lot of interesting flavours, but they do the basics really well too. I couldn't find any fault with this selection at all, so it's biscuit perfection for me!

  2. I tried yours favourites and they are absolutly perfect. My only issue is the poor availability in stores. Where can you buy them off Morrison? I do on-line shopping in Asda and there are only 4 types, and Sainsbury probably does not have them.
Have you tried Sainsbury's spotty Scottie dogs? I've never eaten better shortbreads!

    1. Thank you! I'm so glad you thought they were perfect too! I agree with you that they can be quite hard to find. I have seen them in Sainsbury's although only a larger store and only a few types. It's worth checking your local grocery stores as oddly enough there is one near me that has quite a large selection of Border Biscuits (it's a Turkish grocery store).

I haven't tried the Sainsbury's Scottie dogs but given your recommendation I am adding them to my next shopping list! :-)

  5. I've had borders biscuits before, Bought them at the Scottish Border, Gretna Green, on my way home from a wedding in Scotland, and I had those exact Strawberries and Cream biscuits your reviewing there, and they were so divine, I was kicking myself over only getting the one box. So light and creamy, I haven't had them since, shame there isn't a Morrisons close to me. =)

    1. oooh you actually had some in Scotland?! For some reason I'm imagining that they would taste even better there! I'm so glad you enjoyed the biscuits too and I feel your pain when it comes to wishing I had bought more or something! Or equally how frustrating it is to instead buy lots of a product and it turns out to be not very good. Grrrr.

It's a real shame there is no Morrisons near to you. Any chance of a return trip to Scotland...? :-)

    2. I am hoping to go back to Scotland sometime in the summer, as I'm sure they'll be a anniversary party being planned, and I don't know for sure If they tasted better there, but they were the nicest Strawberry flavoured biscuits I've had, I was looking on the Asda website earlier, and they seem to stock them too, so I'll be looking out for them next time I'm in Asda, and I agree, you never get enough of the things you like, but have plenty of the things you don't like haha. =)

  6. Oh these look soooo good! Funnily enough my Aunt bought me a pack of Borders biscuits when she visited a fortnight ago, I'd never actually heard of or seen the brand Borders anywhere before!!
Unfortunately she bought me the dark chocolate gingers which sadly are not my thing at all - don't like dark choc OR ginger! lol but bless her for the thought :oD This pack look delicious though!

    1. Haha! I would offer but I'm afraid these are all long gone! I'm with you on the dark chocolate ginger too, not really my thing in a biscuit either. I'd give it a go if it was a Border Biscuit though! :D

  8. Great review Katherine. My mouth was watering as I read it! I love Shortbread biscuit but only buy it at Christmas. I don't notice it in stores much during the year. I'll be keeping an eye on these though. I would happily eat Shortbread all year round!
