Review: Limited Edition Kinder Surprise Disney Princess & Marvel Heroes

UPDATE: I would love to add more photos of these Kinder toys to this post - if you have a photo of your collection please send it to me at grocerygems@gmail.com. Full credit will be given. Thank you!

Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs have been been available in blue and pink versions for a while now, since last year at least. As a bit of a Disney geek and with two children who are fans of Marvel Heroes, I'm loving these new Limited Edition Kinder Surprise. Let me know what you think about this latest release in the comments below!

Firstly the Kinder Egg Disney Princesses. There are seven princesses to collect; Ariel, Snow White, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Belle, and Rapunzel. I'm old enough to know better but I still enjoy cracking the chocolate and opening up the little orange plastic egg to find out which toy is inside. Obviously I was holding out for Belle, as she's the BEST Disney Princess, no question.

Inside I found a little Princess Jasmine, made of three interlocking pieces. It's very easy to put together, i.e. even I managed it! I wasn't disappointed, she looks incredibly detailed for such a miniature toy, even her skirt is glittery (which doesn't show up on the photo I'm afraid!). I'll just have to buy a few more Kinder Eggs until I find Belle...

My kids however, were only interested in the Marvel Kinder Surprise. Unlike the Disney Princesses, these toys are not realistic miniatures, these are Marvel characters as rounded "Twistheads", a concept Kinder has used before in previous ranges. I'm not sure where these Twistheads originated or the concept behind them, so feel free to leave a comment if  you have any information. There are ten different Marvel characters to collect; Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Loki, Thor, The Lizard, Venom, and Green Goblin.

Super cute Wolverine! These toys have little twistable heads (well only their scalps really!) that will reveal a number when twisted off. The idea is simply to get more than one and pit them against each other, whoever has the biggest number wins. I liked the look of these and the little strings on their heads which mean they can be attached to school bags or clothing.

We also got a mini Loki. Guess who won in the Twistheads battle between Wolverine and Loki? Overall these are lovely little toys that I'm sure any little fan (and more than likely quite a few big fans too...) of Disney or Marvel will enjoy.

UPDATE:

Our Marvel collection so far!

Here's an absolutely gorgeous photo sent to me by Sophie B. This is a full collection of the Disney Princesses completed by Ellie-May aged 2. Thank you so much for the lovely photo - the collection looks so wonderful displayed altogether! Well done for such a brilliant collection! :)

Kirstie L. sent me this fabulous photo of her Marvel Heroes collection. I love it, such a brilliant collage of photos that perfectly sums up the buy>devour>display sequence of trying to complete a full collection! Just three more to go for this collection, I'm sure it won't be long now. Thanks Kirstie!

  1. I should get the Disney Princess ones myself because I've been a huge fan of Disney ever since I was little and they sound more appealing than the Marvel ones. Right now I hope to get an Ariel, a Cinderella or a Tiana. I'll look out for them when I next visit my local Co-Op.

    1. Ariel would be my next choice so I hope I get her too! Let me know if you find them :)

    2. Oops - they don't do Tiana toys :-(.

      Delete
    3. They really should have included Tiana. There are only 7 of the Disney Princesses available but 10 of the Marvel Characters to collect. Not fair!

      Delete
    4. I know re the number of Princesses vs the number of Marvel characters. I agree with you Katherine - Tiana should well have been included. If we can get Jasmine, why not Tiana, Pocahontas or Mulan?

      Delete
    5. Oh Pocahontas and Mulan would be wonderful! I would much prefer them over many of the others!

    6. Bought two more eggs last night. I got Ariel in one (yes!) and Snow White in the other.

    7. Yay! Well done! Really pleased you found the Ariel :) I haven't managed to get back to a Co-op yet but I'm going to stock up and buy quite a few next time I go!

    8. I have only just seen these so started collecting them for my daughter, they make lovely little ornaments in any kids room. It seems it's only the co op that have these special ones. We now have 6 out of 7, trying to get Cinderella, think she will be like gold dust. We have got nearly 3 sets with all the doubles and trebles lol

Wolverine had 4 and Loki 2.

    2. The numbers aren't fixed if u twist the body it changes, best we can figure its a game u put 2 together twist the bodies (to produce 2 random numbers) then seperate to see who's won

  3. My boys are loving the marvel ones. Luckily out of the 6 we have bought (so far!) They have had a different character each time. Wonder what the chances of getting the remaining 4 in our next purchase would be x

    2. No Ariel or Rapunzel yet either. I'll see which ones I'll get when I go to my local Co-Op this evening. Think I'll get a couple of the Marvel ones too... Perhaps I'll put any duplicates I get on eBay.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think in the multipacks only one out of the three is the Marvel/Disney character (I think it might say on the box somewhere). It's more cost effective to buy singly, especially as they often have offers on the single eggs.

  39. I've not found any offers on single eggs at all but yes 1 in 3 eggs in multi packs cointact Disney.

  47. Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but don't buy the multi-packs if you're trying to get the whole collection! Only one out of three eggs has a Disney/Marvel toy. Such misleading advertisement :( .... Finished my princess collection last night, was just waiting on Ariel :D . . I painted over the doubles/triples dresses with different colours of nail polish and gave them to my little sister to start her own unique collection, she loved them!

  49. We've been collecting both sets, as my daughter loves them, we haven't got a Tangled one yet though, we have all of the others, maybe we need to start doing swapsies!

Good point above about the multipack's, they only guarantee one princess, although we had two in the one we bought before...

Kinder Eggs are great fun either way, we've even posted a video of Elsa (3 and a half) opening a couple on our youtube channel...

  50. I'm collecting so many because in the multi packs in which they come I found every time 'weirdly' a 'Flowee mini' dolls and I am collecting them to. So far I got a blue dressed one, a pink dressed one, a yellow dressed one, a orange dressed one and a violet dressed doll, I'm just missing a white dressed doll.

  51. I'm English, and as such I crave disappointment. That's why I buy Kinder Surprise. Horrible chocolate; nasty little toy: a double-whammy of disillusionment! Sometimes I eat the toy out of sheer despair. I call them the Eggs Of Numbing Inevitability. And when I buy them, I always ask for them in the third person: "Bill Bailey would like the Eggs Of Numbing Inevitability." I did that the other day and it answered me back, and he said to me: "No, I am Bill Bailey. You are not Bill Bailey, you are just a mere doppelgänger. I am the true Bill Bailey, in another dimension." And I went, "Oh, I hadn't planned on that." Then I thought the only way to solve this, I have to run at my doppelgänger, then we will be fused forever. So I ran full-tilt at it, and just before I got there I realised it was the highly polished side of the cheese counter.
