Review: Müller Corner Hawaiian Dream - Coconut Crunch & Mango Crunch

I recently bought a multipack of the new Hawaiian Dream Corner yogurts to review. I was looking forward to trying these as they have two of my favourite yogurt flavours; coconut and mango. Each multipack comes with 3x Coconut Crunch yogurts and 3x Mango Crunch yogurts.

Müller Corner Coconut Crunch: This is a coconut flavoured yogurt with a side portion of chocolate coated cornflakes. The coconut yogurt has a smooth texture and a very strong coconut flavour that is a little artificial tasting. I did enjoy the combination with the chocolate cornflakes and the whole thing is a nice coconut treat.

Müller Corner Mango Crunch: This was actually my favourite of the two flavours. The mango yogurt has a lovely fruity flavour and creamy texture. The white chocolate coated cornflakes are very sweet and create a very tasty combination with the mango yogurt. My eldest son really liked this one too.

Sunshakes Exotic Milkshakes - Mango

Milkshakes always seem to come in the same basic flavours of banana, strawberry, vanilla or chocolate. I've often wondered why there aren't more interesting flavours available here in the UK. Of course in other parts of the world there are some great flavours available. The founders of Sunshakes were inspired by the delicious blends of milks and exotic fruits they sampled in South Asia and the Caribbean to create the Sunshakes Exotic Milkshakes range in three unique flavours; Mango, Guava and Papaya.

The range is primarily available in supermarkets in the far East but they also available to purchase online, in the UK via Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Sunshakes-Mango-Milkshake. Hopefully they will be picked up by some supermarkets here too so that they can be purchased individually.

I was lucky enough to receive a few of the Mango variety to try out. Mango is one of my favourite flavours so I was keen to try this milkshake version. The milkshake itself has a lovely refreshing taste and smooth texture. It's not as thick or sweet as other bottled milkshakes I've tried, and I think the creators have gone for more of a light and refreshing taste. I really enjoyed the mango flavour here, it's sweet and fruity, just like a ripe mango, but not too overpowering or strong. I think these exotic milkshakes would be delicious on a warm summer's day!

New Danio Minis

I love the Danio range of Super Thick yogurts, their thick and creamy strained Greek style yogurts are absolutely delicious. However, in my review or the original pots I did mention that I found them a bit too large for me. I had already switched to other brands of strained yogurts that offered smaller pots in multipacks, but I've always preferred the fruity layers in the Danio range. It's great news that Danio have now released their own smaller versions.

Even though they are called Danio Minis, they are still a decent size at 100g each, and come in multipacks of four pots.

There are three flavours in the range so far; Strawberry, Blueberry and Mango.

Once again the consistency of the strained yogurt really is Super Thick. It's even thicker than a Greek Style yogurt but still has the same type of rich and creamy flavour. The density of the yogurt makes it even more suitable to this smaller size as I find this type of yogurt very filling. The fruity layers on the bottom are all extremely tasty too, not too runny or too sweet like some other brands of strained yogurts. The Mango has a lovely tropical sweetness with lots of flavourful chunks of mango to give texture. The Blueberry is my husband's favourite, it's not as sweet but has a perfect fruity flavour. I was quite surprised by just how much I liked the Strawberry variety. I don't tend to buy strawberry flavoured yogurts, but these are absolutely gorgeous, so fruity and fresh. I'll definitely be buying all the varieties again and I'd even like to see multipack that has a few different varieties included in the range.

Review: Lucozade The Brazilian Mango Mandarin

Thank you to the reader who left a comment asking me to review the latest Limited Edition Lucozade. Here it is! This Lucozade The Brazilian has been timely released to coincide with the upcoming World Cup in Brazil this year. It's predictably described on the bottle as being "like a carnival in your mouth" and having "the spirit of Rio in the palm of your hand". In reality it's an interesting combination of mango and mandarin, with some added pineapple and passion fruit in there too.

I  like the design of the bottle, the vibrant colours used do suit the Brazilian theme. The drink itself is the usual Lucozade base of glucose, with some added fruit juices and natural flavours. The mango juice only makes up 0.5% of the drink but somehow it's still the dominant flavour here, followed by the sweet citrus notes of the mandarin. I loved the overall tropical flavour here, it's a lovely refreshing and fruity mix which is immediately invigorating. If you're a fan of tropical flavoured drinks then you really can't go wrong with this one!

Review: Müller Light Greek Style Mango Yogurt

I love trying out new yogurts but the range that I keep coming back to again and again is the Müller Light Greek Style yogurts, especially the Coconut with a Hint of Vanilla flavour. I really didn't think anything could top that flavour as my favourite yogurt, but that was until this new Mouthwatering Mango came along.

For some reason I've always preferred mango yogurts that are smooth and creamy but they're quite hard to find. I must not be the only one as this new mango yogurt from Müller is completely smooth, without any fruit pieces at all, a real plus for me. I love the mango flavour here, it's sweet but not overly so, with enough tart flavour from the yogurt itself for balance. I can't imagine I'll be wanting to buy any other yogurt for awhile now as I absolutely adore this one!

The other flavours in the Müller Light Greek Style range are; Luscious Lemon, Coconut with a Hint of Vanilla, Sublime Strawberry, Morello Cherry, Honeyed Peach, and Tempting Toffee.

Blood Orange & Mango Chocolate! Wedel Exotic Duet (Polish)

A massive thank you to the wonderful @Banjo_Chocolate who sent me some truly fabulous chocolates a few weeks back. I've so enjoyed trying everything she sent me, including these Oreo Peanut Butter wafers!. This chocolate bar from Polish chocolate makers, E. Wedel, immediately stood out to me in the package because of the interesting combination of flavours promised - blood orange & mango! It's hard enough to find a decent mango chocolate let alone such an intriguing prospect as this Exotic Duet bar.

What's even better is that this bar was absolutely delicious - seriously you all need to visit a local Polish grocery store to track this one down. The filling is a fruity cream layer topped with a jam/jelly layer. Most of the flavour came from the jam layer, which has a distinctive blood orange taste but with a tropical twist. The orange is definitely the stronger flavour over the mango but the two still work together to create a very unique experience. I love the fact that these are not overly sweet, unlike a lot of fruit centred chocolates these days (Quality Street ones especially!). In fact I didn't get any kind of throat burning sugary overload from this, even though I ate quite a few pieces in one go! The fruit flavours have enough tanginess to keep them from being too sweet, and the milk chocolate is not overly sugary either - I'm sure this is how all soft centred fruit chocolates used to taste!

Thank you once again to my fellow snack friend, the lovely @Banjo_Chocolate, for sending me this delicious Wedel chocolate bar. Please take a few seconds to like the Bring Back Banjo Chocolate Bar Facebook page and sign the petition hereAll support is greatly appreciated :)

Ribena Mango & Lime and Pineapple & Passion Fruit

September is fast approaching but the hot weather seems to be holding out a little longer in my part of the world. It's been a lovely sunny couple of days here so I've loved trying out these tropical Ribena flavours, Mango & Lime and Pineapple & Passion Fruit. These were released earlier this year, and were recently sent to me for review;

I was very pleased to see that both drinks are free from artificial flavours and sweeteners, and contain real fruit juice and added Vitamin C.

Mango & Lime: I love mango based fruit juice drinks so I couldn't wait to try this one. As you would expect from Ribena, this is a squash type drink, so it's very thirst quenching. The flavours are light and extremely refreshing, predominantly of the mango and orange juice, with a very subtle citrus zest.

Pineapple & Passion Fruit: This one was absolutely delicious, and surprisingly my favourite of the two - I don't usually go for pineapple juice. The Pineapple & Passion Fruit Ribena just has such a sweet tropical fruit flavour that makes it extremely enjoyable and summer like. Perfect for a warm day.

I've often bemoaned the lack of interesting jelly flavours (or Jell-o for any US readers) in the UK, beyond the basic orange, strawberry, raspberry etc. There are often more interesting flavours available in other countries (I recently bought a passion fruit jelly mix from a local Portuguese grocery store), so I was very interested in this recipe for turning these tropical Ribenas into a jelly dessert. Definitely an idea I'll be giving a go soon!

Pineapple, Passionfruit & Raspberry Jelly

Ingredients

• 500ml Ribena Pineapple and Passion Fruit
• 200g raspberries
• 5 gelatine leaves (or vegetarian substitute)
• 100ml boiling water
• 3 tablespoons cold water

Method

Break up the gelatine leaves into small cm squared pieces. Put in a large plastic
jug with 3 tbsp cold water to dissolve. Tip: To help with dissolving you can hover
the jug over a saucepan of boiling water and stir.
Pour 100ml of boiling water into the jug followed by the Ribena. Stir.
Scatter a few raspberries into each glass and pour the jelly mix into the individual
glasses, filling up about ¾ way to the top. Use cling film to cover.
Leave in the fridge for 4-6 hours and enjoy! Serves 4-5.

Chia Pod Review (Whole Foods Market)

Whenever I head to the Nespresso store in central London, I always take a look at the Whole Foods Market opposite. I'd seen these Chia Pods featured in a local newspaper and had wanted to give them a try. They're an interesting take on the so-called chia seeds craze. Chia seeds have been hailed as a superfood, especially for runners, because of their high protein, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and mineral content. I have no idea if these claims are true or not, but if you want further information then check out THIS article on the BBC News Magazine website.

The pudding inspired Chia Pods contain only three ingredients - coconut milk, chia seeds, and real fruit. They're made by Australian based The Chia Co, and come in a few fruity flavours; Mango, Banana, Blueberry, and also a Vanilla Bean version. Whole Foods Market didn't have all of those flavours (I wanted to try the Vanilla Bean) so in the end we chose the Banana and Mango Chia Pods.

Chia seeds are very small black seeds, a bit like poppy seeds in appearance. Combined with liquid they tend to go soft, and almost gel like, as they absorb it. I enjoyed the texture from the soft seeds as it creates a creamier experience; there's no danger of crunchy seeds getting stuck in your teeth here! However, this unique gel like consistency may be a problem for anyone who's slimy-texture-phobic. My Banana Chia Pod had a very simple and unfussy flavour of blended banana and coconut milk. The seeds themselves do not have a particularly strong taste, adding just a hint of nuttiness. The Mango Chia Pod was not as sweet as the Banana version, and seemed a little bit blander overall. However, it was still enjoyable and extremely filling. In fact it was only when I got home, quite late, that I realised I hadn't eaten anything else apart from one Chia Pod, I just wasn't hungry at all. For a continual grazer like me that is quite something!

There are also these packets of Chia Seeds available from the same company. They're useful for taking home and adding to your morning cereal, oats, smoothies, salads, bread - really anything you fancy.

Oasis Mango Medley Drink

Launched a few months ago, this Mango Medley is a new flavour for the Oasis drink range. It's not a brand that I'm particularly familiar with and I only bought this one after much pestering by my mango mad son. I'm quite annoyed with myself that I didn't take a closer look at the label because this drink contains artificial sweeteners, including aspartame, which I usually try to avoid

The medley part of the name refers to the fact that this is drink is a mix of mango and orange fruit juice... although there is laughably only 3% mango juice and 2% orange juice in total. I'll stop the negativity there though because I'm sure most people who buy Oasis don't expect a pure fruit juice with these. And to be fair to the Oasis Mango Medley, it's quite an enjoyable drink. It's basically a mango and orange squash - very tropical and fruity, but quite light and refreshing at the same time.

Glico Pocky Mango Mousse Review

Here's another review of some fantastic Pocky, although this time they're from China rather than the usual Japanese Pocky I've featured. These were very kindly sent to me by the lovely @Banjo_Chocolate who obviously knows my tastes very well! I'm also really pleased to be able to give the Mousse range of Pocky a try. These Pocky Mousse feature a thick creamy coating that is double the thickness of a standard Pocky.

Immediately I can see just how generous the frosting on these Pocky is. They're perfect for those people that aren't impressed by the thin coatings on the usual Pocky sticks.

The thick mango frosting is absolutely delicious, it's just like a mango ice cream type flavour. Nicely fruity but sweet and creamy at the same time. They're great to eat in this hot weather too, quite light and no messy fingers at all. I highly recommend giving the Pocky Mousse a try if you find them (try your nearest Chinatown or Chinese grocery store). They're available in quite a few other flavours too, such as a Matcha Green Tea Mousse.

Thank you so much to @Banjo_Chocolate, for sending me the Pocky Mango Mousse. Please support the campaign to get Mars to bring back the much missed Banjo Chocolate bar - especially by liking the Bring Back Banjo Chocolate Bar Facebook page. Thank you :)

Double Fruit Oreos - Raspberry & Blueberry and Orange & Mango (China)

When it comes to handing out exciting Oreo flavours, it would seem that the UK is at the bottom of the list. If you want anything more interesting than vanilla or chocolate cream fillings then you're going to have to look further afield. These Double Fruit Oreos for example are from China. When I spotted them in a shop in London's Chinatown, their dual coloured centres instantly reminded me of all the fantastic varieties I've only ever seen on American blogs such as The Impulsive Buy (Watermelon Oreos anyone?).

The outer packaging for these Double Fruit Oreos is certainly bright and inviting, but the inside of the box simply consists of 9 Oreos sitting in a plastic tray.

Raspberry & Blueberry Oreos

The filling looks fantastic, at least to my only-ever-had-plain-Oreos-before-eyes. The scent is immediately extremely strong and fruity but intensely artificial at the same time - verging on a fruity bubblegum scent. The actual taste continues in the same vein with quite an artificial undertone to the generic berry flavour. The difference in taste between the raspberry and blueberry creams was not as strong as I hoped, as they both have a very similar fruity flavour. However the blueberry side does have an extra sour edge to it that is thankfully missing in the raspberry cream.

Orange & Mango Oreos

Again the filling looks very colourful. Happily, the scent here is slightly less artificial than before, with a sweet citrus fruitiness. The flavour works quite successfully with the outer biscuit, creating a classic chocolate & orange combination. The mango component is not particularly strong in itself, but it does add an undertone of tropical flavour to the dominant citrus notes. The result is an extremely sweet cookie, but it was ultimately my favourite out of the two Double Fruit Oreos.

Overall, I'm not disappointed in these Oreos. They're one of those products that I'm just pleased to have found and had the opportunity to try!

Smooze Coconut & Pineapple Fruit Ice

I bought this box of 10 Coconut & Pineapple Smooze Fruit Ices at the recent Allergy show, held at the Olympia in London. I also received samples of their other flavours to try; Simply Coconut, Coconut & Pink Guava, and Coconut & Mango. They're described as a coconut milk based gluten and dairy free iced treat with no artificial colours, preservatives or cholesterol.

The Smooze come in pretty nifty triangular packaging that's easy to hold without any mess. The fruit ice iteself is made of pure coconut milk and simple 100% natural ingredients.

All the Smooze flavours are deliciously creamy - it's hard to believe they are completely dairy free. My kids loved all the flavours, but the Coconut & Pineapple and the Coconut & Mango were their favourites. The coconut milk provides a perfect base for the fresh and sweet fruity flavours. At only 64 calories in each Smooze, they're also a fantastic alternative to ice cream and have been going down a treat during this heatwave!

I bought these at the Allergy Show, but they are also available at some health food shops. (They can be stored at room temperature until they need to be frozen).

Grace Aloe Vera Drink - Mango

I picked this up mainly because it's from Taiwan and I thought it'd be a cool addition to my Around the World challenge. It turns out that Grace is actually a Caribbean based company, but this particular product is made by one of their divisions in Taiwan. I've heard about the health benefits of the aloe vera plant in general and the juice is said to maintain good health, energy and prevent illness. These Aloe Vera drinks are available unflavoured (usually in bright green bottles) but also in several fruity versions. I bought this Mango variety from a local corner shop.

There are lots of "bits" floating in the drink that at first glance look like fruit pulp that you might get in any juice. However these are the actual pieces of Aloe Vera that make up 20% of the drink. They are clear and almost jelly like in texture, as you can see in the photo below.

I was a bit worried that the aloe vera pieces would be unpleasant texture wise but I was pleased to find that the whole drink was absolutely delicious. The mango flavour is sweet, fruity and very tasty. The aloe vera pieces are slightly strange at first but they actually make this drink extremely refreshing - perfect for those rare hot days! I loved this drink and I'll definitely be trying some of the other flavours.

I've seen other brands of Aloe Vera drinks in the World Foods sections of most supermarkets.

Bear Mango Yo Yo Review

My kids are fans of the Bear Yo Yo range, and they're a pretty cool way for them to get an extra portion of fruit. Each Yo Yo fruit roll is made with pure fruit and no added sugar or... anything else at all. The ingredients for this new(ish) Mango fruit variety are simply: mango, apples and pears. That's it.

I really love the bold design and of course, it also made the kids giggle - a lot. The bear has a fig leaf to cover his... modesty. It is 100% Naked Nature after all!

Inside the packet there are two fruit rolls, which look very much like sweets rather than fruit, and two collectible fact cards. The Human Body Fact No. 76 is: "It isn't possible to tickle yourself, even if you are really ticklish". I haven't tested this out yet, but let me know how it goes if any of you decide to give it a go!

My kids loved the fun factor in unwinding the fruit rolls to eat them. They had a deliciously sweet taste with a distinct and strong mango flavour. Since I love mango I couldn't resist trying one myself and it's definitely something that I can imaging buying as a snack in the future. There are only 27 calories per yo yo which is fantastic for such a yummy sweet treat. The texture is chewy but quite soft at the same time, without any stickiness - making these much easier to eat than similar fruit roll up products we've tried. Overall it's a thumbs up from us; they're fun, fruity, and most importantly, tasty.

Vivani Organic White Chocolate with Mango and Coconut

Yesterday I was reading The Review Addict's fab Mango Mystique review and thinking how much I would love to try a mango and coconut combination. By complete coincidence (and luck) what should my brother bring over today but this Vivani Organic White Chocolate with mango and coconut. Result!

Vivani is an organic chocolate company, based in Germany, which prides itself on premium products made using high quality cocoa and without any emulsifiers (like soy lecithin). Their chocolate is available from Whole Foods Market in London (where my brother found it) and also quite a few online health stores. The packaging is certainly quite stylish with it's "The Art of Chocolate" tagline and interesting artwork on the front.

The chocolate itself is quite orange in colour due to all the little mango pieces. I could immediately smell the strong fruity mango scent which suggested that the mango would dominant the coconut. The chocolate has visible pieces of white coconut interspersed throughout. The other thing I noted about this Vivani chocolate is that it is very very thin. I don't think I have ever had a bar this size (it's a large bar) that is quite so flat. Vivani say about this bar on their website that "its delicately thin shape intensifies the taste even more". I'm not sure how having less can intensify the flavour but it's certainly an interesting assertion!

I was expecting an extremely sweet chocolate with this bar - how can a white chocolate, mango and coconut combo not be overly sweet? But I didn't realise (it's not mentioned on the front of the packaging) that this bar is also made with yogurt. The full description on the back reads - "organic white chocolate with pieces of mango, coconut and yogurt". That explains why there is quite a sour taste to this chocolate. It's not unpleasant and certainly helps to curb the overall sweetness of the bar but it's just not what I was expecting. The flavour of the mango was delicious and had quite a tangy edge to it, perhaps because of the yogurt blend. The coconut definitely comes through at the end of each bite as a subtle aftertaste but it can't compete with the main mango flavour.

Overall I did like the flavours in this chocolate, and I love the fact that there are only a few ingredients (compared to most mainstream chocolates), which are all organic. Some people might not like the tartness of the yogurt flavour but I enjoyed the unusual combination.

Grocery Gems Verdict: Vivani White Chocolate with Mango & Coconut

RATING: 9 out of 10.
Buy them again?: I would try more from this brand.

Innocent Veg Pot: Caribbean Jerk Curry

Innocent veg pots are one of those products that I buy as the colder months start to set in. In case you've never tried an Innocent Veg Pot, they're a meal made up of various vegetables mixed with rice or lentils. They are similar to a soup but just much thicker and very filling. All of the Veg Pots contain 3 of your 5 a day, and they make a fairly low calorie lunch. This new variety, Caribbean Jerk Curry caught my eye mainly because the description included the words "coconut rice". How could a coconut fiend such as myself resist?

On opening the pot, there is a sunny array of veggies, rice and beans which looks colourful and appetising. There is a also lovely fragrance predominantly from the fresh coriander on top of the pot. The veg pots are ridiculously easy to prepare since they just need a quick zap in the microwave (4 minutes in total). After cooking, and stirring, the colours and ingredients have all melded together nicely giving a thick stew like substance.

The flavours are all fantastic and very fresh tasting. Let me start by saying that I have never tasted real Caribbean jerk curry so I won't be able to review this product on the basis of that taste. The "curry" flavour is very mild, there is no heat as such, but I could taste the lovely warming spices of paprika and mild chilli. This Caribbean Veg Pot is a lot sweeter in taste than the other veg pots I have tried.. There are large chunks of the surprising ingredient mango. I was unsure about the inclusion of fruit but I was glad to find that the mango chunks tasted more like a sweet butternut squash than mango. I also loved the coconut rice, it has a deliciously rich flavour.

This Caribbean Jerk Curry has become my favourite Innocent Veg Pot so far and I have bought it quite a few times as a quick lunch. (As a curious aside my least favourite Veg Pot is the Thai Coconut Curry, even though I should love that one from it's name! It had so much lemongrass in it that I found it inedible).

The Innocent Caribbean Jerk Curry veg pot cost £3.69 each but are currently on a buy one get one free offer at Sainsbury's. Each pot contains 355 calories.
