It's Back! TRIO Toffee Chocolate Biscuit Bar

Trio was a very popular chocolate biscuit back in the 1980's, which was probably better known for the shouty "I want a Triiiioo and I want one NOW' adverts than for it's flavour. Seeing as I'm slightly *ahem* older than most snack bloggers out there, I can vouch for just how iconic and memorable those adverts were.

Along with the 54321 chocolate biscuit bar, the Trio was one of my favourite chocolate treats as a young child. Although, I didn't actually realise that the Trio was still around until as late as 2003, I thought this brand had disappeared much earlier than that.

I like the fact the the new Trio bars are wrapped in gold foil with an outer red paper wrapper, rather than plastic. It enhances the retro and nostalgic feel of the experience and it's certainly how I remember the Trio from back in the day.

The Trio is so named because it's made up of three elements; chocolate, biscuit and a toffee flavour cream layer. It also consists of three distinctive and chunky segments. The best part of the original Trio for me was just how thick the outer chocolate layer was and I'm pleased to see that's still the case here. In fact the whole thing instantly brought back memories of eating these as a kid. The inner layers are both really tasty, with a light and crunchy biscuit base and a caramel leaning toffee flavour, but it's the thick chocolate that makes these so memorable for me.

I do remember the toffee as being a bit lighter in colour and creamier then it is here, but I'm not sure my memory can be relied on after all this time! Regardless, the Trio is still a delicious biscuit bar and one that I'm very glad to see return. I hope this is a limited edition that will be around for a little while longer!

  1. It didn't even occur to me that the bar was made of three components! All I saw was the three cubes and just went with that haha! xx

    1. I'm sure it was because of that reason aswell :)

I just remember the advert's song had a line that went 'Not one, Not two, but three things in it' and then it would show the different layers. I'm just old lol x

  2. I'm really not sure if I ever had a Trio, but sure remember that Ad! Hope I find it soon (some new stuff seems to take longer to get to my town). I hope one day Banjo bar comes back, as you know that was my favourite eighties bar! :))))))))

    1. Hope you find it soon too. I'm sure if you try it some memories will come back!

Maybe McVities could bring back Banjo too? I'm sure Trio used to be made by Jacobs back in the day (unless they're owned by the same company now).

    1. Hope you find it soon! It might just be nostalgia talking but I do think they're one of the tastier biscuit bars out there (in this price range).

  4. So cool to see so many old choccy biscuits returning...the Caramac Breakaway is the only recent one I remember from when I was a kid though.

    1. I don't remember the Caramac Breakaway at all. When were they around? Believe it or not I didn't eat much chocolate in the 90s and early 00s so I don't remember a lot of snacks from those years.

  5. I haven't had a Trio for over 20 years but I don't remember them being like Twix, with caramel/toffee inside - I seem to remember it being more of a toffee flavoured fondant.

    1. Hi, don't worry they're not like a Twix at all. The toffee layer is still a cream/fondant type thickness.

  6. I finally found Trio! Alas cannot try until Easter as I have decided to fast this time! Love the fact it keeps the nostalgia look and the gold inner wrapper makes it look rather special.

I still live in hope that Mars UK brings back Banjo with the original wrapper and foil lining to keep that Banjo freshness ;)

  7. Trio bars were my favourite as a child. I still remember the adverts. I loved the one were they locked her in a soundproof booth so she couldn't shout. We have these biscuits regularly in my family but if I want any they have to be hidden.
