Walkers Ranch Raccoon Crisps (Do Us A Flavour)

The last of my reviews for the new Walker's Do Us A Flavour promotion. There are six flavours in total in this range, all vying for the public vote to win their flavour creator a massive £1million prize. Without a doubt the wackiest of all the flavours that made the final 6 (and also by far the least appealing to me) is this Ranch Raccoon.

In fact this review is going to be a very short one. I couldn't eat more than one or two of these crisps - the flavour literally made me feel sick. They're disgusting! Of course, no one else in my family had this extreme reaction, although none of them liked the flavour very much either. The Ranch Raccoon crisps have a strong meaty flavour which I can only describe as tasting like over-boiled chicken, mixed with an equally horrible, heavy sour cream sauce background. The combination of the two is just retch-inducing. Perhaps it's just the idea of being raccoon flavoured which is putting me off, but since I know these are actually suitable for vegetarians, I don't think it's that. I simply couldn't get on with this flavour at all.

If anyone could stomach this flavour then please feel free to add to my limited review by leaving your own thoughts below - thanks!

  1. well i think i said elsewhere that i found these 'ok' - but not disgusting like you did - none of the flavours have been particularly interesting to eat.

    1. I agree about the flavours in general. I quite like the Hot Dog ones but not enough to want them to be a permanent flavour.

  2. I thought these were inedible too, there was something just off about the taste...Far, far too gamey, I thought. Also, why bother saying it's 'ranch' if you're not going to add like, any ranch powder? I was expecting nice ranch crisps with a bit of a 'meaty' aftertaste or something, instead I got buckshot venison crisps with a bad sour cream aftertaste.

Not pleasant at all! No in my family could stomach them, we had to just toss the mini bag, and I hate wasting food, haha.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment Chelsea, it feels good to know that I'm not alone! I thought maybe I was being a bit harsh but I couldn't eat these.

Your description is spot on too - that strange meatiness with the spoilt milk flavoured sour cream is just horrible.

    2. I thought the same these are by far the worst flavour of the new ones!! I think I read Parsley on the ingredients..? Anyway they're a bit wrong. Chip Shop Chicken Curry are my fave so far! :)

    3. It seems like Ranch Raccoon is a real love it or hate it flavour! You're right they do have dried parsley in the ingredients. I don't mind parsley but it doesn't work here.

The Chip Shop Chicken Curry ones are nice - they're my sons favourite too :)

  3. I have tried all the 6 new flavours, I must say not impressed with any of them. They don't get my vote.

    1. I don't think any of them will become long term favourites, but I still like trying out new flavours - just not Ranch Raccoon!

    2. I did not like the racoon flavour but have found in general over the last year or so that Walkers are putting less and less flavour on their crisps. The Sensations range used to be intense but these days are very lacking. These trial flavours are so bland that they are mostly "Potato with a hint of something" flavour. If you want a proper crisps experience I recently came across McCoy's Firepit Sizzlers. WOW! (and no I don't work for KP).

  4. I absolutely loved this flavour.. I feel I have a very odd paler now.. The fajita ones were not interesting at all but these packed abit of a punch and I thoroughly enjoyed them.. I guess there has to be someone :p

  5. Ranch Raccoon flavour was not my cup of tea, hopefully the next ones I try will tickle my pallet.

  6. I run a corner shop (english) and invested in a case of each of these crisps. My customers won't touch them. Walkers have something to answer for here. The crisps had a short sell-by-date and I had to reduce them to 40p a bag. They 'still' would not budge. I lose money with crisps. I now stick to the 20p bags for the kids and the £1 sharing bags for the grown ups. No fancy flavours. Walkers should refund all the retailers who have to throw away this rubbish. 7. Was sitting at home desperate for some crisps - only packs left were ranch raccoon. The smell alone should have put me off. After trying one crisp I had to throw the bag away. Nasty. Someone else has mentioned an odd gamey meaty taste on this site - you are right- tastes like nasty brown meat on a chicken that has sat in fridge overnight with a pot of sour cream/milk leaking over it
