Milky Way Simply Caramel Bar

Another interesting find by my brother. I had never heard of the Milky Way Caramel before. I can't say that Milky Way is my favourite chocolate. The inner filling is way too sweet for me. It's mainly seen as a children's chocolate but neither of my kids are keen on it either. Having said that I had high hopes when trying this bar. I love caramel so I couldn't wait to give it a try.

This chocolate bar has very thick layer of chocolate on the outside, which is very similar to the chocolate on a Mars Bar. Underneath all this chocolate the inner section of the bar is pure caramel.

There is no nougat layer at all, just one thick layer of caramel. Tastewise it is the same as the caramel in a Mars bar. It is not a gooey caramel but it is not hard either. It got quite sticky to eat and the taste was a bit cloying after a while.

The whole bar is just like a Mars bar without the nougat. It is probably fine for fans of caramel but it just felt like something was missing. The caramel is a bit too bland to carry off a bar this size by itself. This kind of filling lends itself better to smaller individual chocolates. In a bar this big, it lacked texture and flavour.

I don't think it can compete tastewise with either the classic Mars Bar or original Milky Way. Let me know if you have tried the Milky Way Simply Caramel bar and what you thought of it!

  1. Got to agree- it didn't do much for me at all. The whole thing was a bit flavourless sadly.

The caramel is far too bland, and there is sooo much of it. If you're going to make a bar with that much caramel in it, bloody well get the caramel flavour right before you put it on the shelves!

  2. Not something that I would rush to try, it does look very bland! I imagine it is quite heavy going when you eat it?

  3. I agree with the other posters. This does look rather bland and boring. A Mars bar with far less texture and taste by the looks of it. Is this a UK find?

    1. Yep it's a UK find, my brother bought it in a sweet shop in Brighton. But for once I don't mind that it's not widely available!

    2. I live right near Brighton so I am going on a hunt for this now - I want to try it out as I am serious choc-o-holic. Nice or horrible, I don't like to think have missed out on a chocolate bar!

  4. That's just begging to be diced up and added to an icecream sundae. Shame there wasn't more Milky Way in that Milky Way bar...

  5. I like the way you think! Chocolate can always be improved by adding it to ice-cream. I'm making that my new motto in life!
