New Regina Passion Fruit Chocolate

Regina is Portugal's oldest and most famous chocolate brand. Founded in 1928, it's well know for it's fruit flavoured chocolate range, super cute chocolate umbrellas and more. I remember my grandparents bringing me the Regina Morango (Strawberry) and Regina Ananas (pineapple) flavoured chocolates as a child. It seemed so exotic back then and I credit those early experiences with my interest in unusual flavours and brands now! When I heard that there was a new Maracujá (Passion Fruit) variety I knew I had to track it down, and luckily it didn't prove too difficult.

This Maracujá chocolate bar has the same distinctive appearance as the rest of the Regina fruit flavoured chocolates -  they have a very unique concave look! It looks a bit like someone forgot to put the filling in, but honestly they're meant to look like that!

I have to admit that I haven't been able to pass on my love of Regina chocolate to anyone else, my husband and kids are not that keen on it. The chocolate has it's own particular taste and slightly waxy texture which is probably due to the need to combat the hot climate in Portugal. It's a very sweet chocolate too - definitely one to enjoy with a strong cup of espresso. I enjoyed the passion fruit flavour in this bar, it gives the milk chocolate a lovely tropical flavour.

Overall, I loved this new bar from Regina, it's a fantastic addition to their fruit inspired range. I couldn't resist buying the classic Orange flavour too! :)

  1. I've never heard of this bar before I shall be on the lookout for them now! I love the concave look, it's very unique. Do they still do the strawberry and pineapple flavours?

    1. Oh yes! The strawberry, pineapple and orange are the classic flavours. They've been around forever and are still available. Only seen the orange and new passion fruit in the UK though.
